Media producers, technology companies, and universities from the Berlin-Brandenburg region have just formed the first virtual-reality association in the capital region. The goal is to create a new competence centre for these technologies of the future.

A number of initiatives from Potsdam and Berlin met at the Film University on 27 April 2016 to create the new group, called Virtual Reality e.V. Berlin-Brandenburg. Studio Babelsberg, UFA, Exozet, SMI, Metropolis VR, Film University Babelsberg, and the HPI (D-School) were joined by 15 additional well-known Berlin- or Brandenburg-based film and television producers, technology-company executives, and research institutes. The newly formed association combines the VR and AR competences existing in Potsdam-Babelsberg and the capital region in order to make the location more internationally competitive in this area.

To use the power of these local networks, and develop innovative VR/AR products and business models through direct interaction. We see ourselves as an association well positioned between, and indeed competitive with today’s drivers of VR and AR, the United States and China,” says association chairman Stephan Schindler.
